Why Hector Is a Better Candidate
I watched part of the Democratic debate again last night since I had missed some before. I am still not very inspired by any of the candidates and trust them not at all. I have voted for Ralph Nader in the past but am not sure about that this time. Last election I succumbed to fear and voted for Kerry. I have decided not to do that anymore. Its an old principle in therapy that you put energy towards what you want and not what you fear. If you don’t, you are more likely to get what you fear. Therefore, unless someone comes up with an inspiring candidate for president, I think I am writing in my cat – Hector the Beautiful, King of Everything. Here’s why. He is far better than the current administration in so many ways.
1) He looks before he leaps – I can see him contemplating whether he can get him self out of a situation (or tree) before he climbs too far. Even when he miscalculates he manages to face reality and before too long can rescue himself.
2) There’d be no need for a VP. Cats have nine lives.
3) He gets along with other species for the most part. I have seen him rub himself on a dog, and sit and watch a rabbit without killing it. In his ongoing war with the chickens, he knows when to tease them and when to retreat. Even when they launch a terrorist attack at him he can evade them.
4) He likes to hunt but doesn’t need a gun. The chickens have been known to interfere with his hunting and he can manage not to shoot them in the face.
5) He’s honest. He makes no promises he won’t keep and you know when he says or does something he means it. Really, when he is looking all cute and cuddly – he just wants to be cute and cuddly. There’s no need to bribe him into that and it won’t work anyway. When he isn’t feeling cuddly, you’ll know it.
6) He’s observant. He can spend a long time watching another creature and studying what the best way to interact with them is. Much better that assuming they are just like you and will react like you want them to.
7) He only uses legal drugs and there have been no real consequences to his past periods of intoxication. His favorite place to watch birds and bunnies is from under the catnip bush and the worse that happens is NOTHING.
8) He’s a uniter, not a divider. Everyone likes him. I can watch him for long periods of time without yelling. (We can’t watch the current administration members on TV anymore cause I yell and cuss at the TV). Hector can be highly entertaining, very cute and disarming – a good skill to have with those who may not intend good towards you.
9) He’s smart and good at getting people to do what he wants. I don’t get up to feed anyone else at 5:30 am. Or pet anyone else at 4am.
10) He understands what it is to be poor and homeless. He used to live at the pound and had no family for a while.
