Today's News

So many things....New colors of Trilogy are here (by Berroco) that are luscious.  And Denelle went to Bellwood Discovery school this morning talk about knitting and the teacher came by this afternoon with letters the kids wrote to her - they are so sweet and loved learning about different kinds of fibers.  They already knit some.

And then...Wanda - the woman who taught me to spin with a drop spindle  many years ago - popped in out of nowhere.  She brought some CD spindles and a few others.  So those are here.  And she is teaching a beginning weaving class  next month at the Buchanan Log House (2910 Elm Hill Pike, N'ville) and they are taking sign ups now (only 4 spaces)  There's an open house on Sunday and registration at the Log House from 2-4.  Or call me if you need her phone number or more info.  It sounds great.

Don't forget charity knitting tomorrow.  There was more, but my memory fails me and I will have to get back to this later -  when or if it returns.

Just some things...

It was brought to my attention that the store hours were no longer on the website...I have fixed this and there is a link now to take you to them.

Every once in a while we are going to feature a yarn....one people haven't really noticed but that is really great.  Here's the first one.  It is Knitting Fever's Angora Extra and is 70% Angora,25% wool and 5% nylon,  made in Italy and oh so soft.  Label says 4st/1" but it is more like 5 or 5.5 (worsted or DK weight depending on the needles) Here's a picture of the shrug Bronwyn made with it.

Angora1 My picture taking doesn't do it justice, it is cute.  And here's the yarn...

Angora2 There's a book of patterns for it too - Ella Rae Designs, Book 2.  Can you imagine wrapping yourself in soft bunny fur, a sweater, or even just one ball for luxury wrist warmers/gauntlets.  Anyway, as a feature yarn it is 30% off for the next week.  I think I need a hat and gloves......

Denise is here.

There've been presents today from UPS....Denise needles are back in along with longer cords, companion sets and size #17 & 19 needles.  Also The Addi's for sock class are here - which reminds me - Carole's sock class starts next week - There are a couple of spaces left so sign up soon.  This is the last chance to learn to knit socks before Christmas.  Family Circle's Easy Crochet is here.  There are some great patterns in it, for all those crocheters out there.

I am working on a scarf in the style of the Knitty Lizard Ridge pattern....Doing mine out of Silk Garden and here's a picture of where I am so far......

Swatch_edited1 And then I wanted show off the work of my chiropractor Jeff....He does amazing woodwork and made these drop spindles (which are for sale.

Color Inspiration...

I was looking out the window this morning and the sky was several shades of grey - from almost white to dark stormy grey. The sun was still shining in some parts of the sky and made the trees all gold and bright green....I need to knit it sometime soon.   It was awesome.  Maybe some Kaffe Fasset sort of shawl - with various greys in the background and green leafy shapes cascading down it in assorted colors and sizes........it is in my brain - so when I get finished with the other nine projects there............

Look At The New Yarn! It's Tweedy!

Kraemer Okay the picture isn't that great but it is great yarn.  Kraemer Tatamy Tweed - a cotton/acrylic blend - 250yds/5.49 - would make a great light sweater, washclothes....Its Tweedy.  Even though its about to be fall I had to have it.

And with it came DK weight alpaca - American rather than South American - it isn't dyed - natural and brown only at this point  but it is very nice and reasonable too.  220yds/12.95.  Like we don't have enough alpaca already...............but I did find room for it.

Denise Did It

Denise needles (they are the nicest folks) called yesterday - more sets are on the way but the big news is that they have finally come up with size 17 & 19 needles - these are on the way too.  That's all...well except some people definitely approve of the hand dyed cashmere..........

The mail came...

from home with Doyle and there was this incredible hand dyed cashmere.  I talked with the woman this morning and after I knit up some to be sure I still LOVE IT we may be carrying some.  It is very nice, comes in two ply and four ply, is reasonably priced for cashmere....so when you come by this week ask to see it and tell me what you think.

Isn't this weather great?

I woke up late this morning and sat out on the patio drinking coffee and there was a cool breeze and warm sun.  Its the best thing......Great knitting outside weather. May move one of the rockers from the back to the front and spend some of the day out there.

Carole brought in the beginnings of her Fusion sweater (from the bag that never made it to the shelf cause she saw it first) and its very pretty and soft.  Fusion is from Wendy yarns and we have several colors  (I will get them out somewhere today).  They are self striping in interesting colors, wool/acrylic blend and so lighter that wool would be.  Sort of like Foliage, but not so much thick and thin and feels even better.

Calendar Additions...

Red Bear tried on some things from the trunk show but he decided that they don't go with his tattoo, plus with those ears it's hard to wear a little hat and still see....

There are lots of  new things on the calendar....The classes for this weekend changed to Beginning 1 and Kid's Knitting.  Carole is doing another sock class beginning with Magic Loop Class on Thursday October 5th.  This one starts at 5, and runs after hours most sessions so folks can hopefully get here after work.  Class will run through November 9th.  Bronwyn is doing Fearless Lace - beginning Friday Oct 13th and continuing Friday the 27th - 4-6pm.  Bronwyn loves lace and is really good at it.  This one is based on the little cashmere scarf she is working on for the store - one skein of cashmere is all it takes to give yourself ultimate luxury.  Take advantage of her skills at this and learn to face your fears of lace - I am.  Denelle is doing a My First Sweater Class beginning in October.  This one starts Saturday, Oct 14th and is three weeks (not in a row).  If you are ready to do your first sweater this one's easy and fun, top down and will quickly become your favorite cuddly sweater.  Sign up soon, space is limited.

See you all tonight for the opening of the trunk show........ Remember if you buy the book tonight, you get 10% off yarn tonight too.

Trunk Show News

That trunk show for Natural Knits for Babies & Moms is here!   To celebrate our first trunk show there will be wine and cheese and chocolate (there's always chocolate) Tuesday the 19th from 5-7.  This stuff is SSSOOO CUTE....some of the yarn they used was not very soft, but there are many things here that could work better.  The show will be here until Sunday.  There are some great sweaters in there...well,  it is all so good.
