Preview of Magazine

Knitn

This magazine is one I have bought occasionally but generally haven't knit from since they used to use mostly Walmart/Hobby Lobby kinds of yarns.  However, lately that has changed and so has the look of the magazine.  They just sent a preview of the December issue and I had gotten the newest one recently.  So, they are in the store this week for you to see.  There will also be a survey - would you buy this magazine? - because I am considering carrying it.  There are several useful features not found in other knitting magazines.  They have a yarn review section where knit up swatches and review 23 yarns per issue.  There are some columns that are interesting - Leslye Solomon does one on knitting techniques and she is great at telling you how to knit to fit  I took a class from her this summer and she is the one who came up with the design a sweater knitter's graph paper that I use constantly.  There's a regular column for men who knit and the list goes on.  So come in and review these for yourself and let me know what you think.  Or if you have seen it recently, just post a comment here.

I've been out most of the day...knitting in Nashville. There's a great group that meets the second Monday of every month at the Nashville Library.  Ann Shayne of Mason Dixon fame is usually there and this time Lynn Vogel of Twisted Sisters was there too.  She has that great sweater workbook that came out recently.  It's a great group and it was nice to be able to go this time.

Good news on the Fair Isle Hat knit along - the books are in stock and are to be mailed tomorrow. We should have them in time for the October 7th start date.  We will meet on Sunday in group to start since many folks knitting it are in the group.  If you can't make it that's okay too, we can do email....There are 10 of us now.

Baby Surprise Jacket

Surprise Here's the Baby Surprise Jacket I've been working on.  Knit from 2 balls of Encore with #6 needles to make it a bit smaller than worsted would usually be.  Now if I can get one more project off the needles I will start a bigger one for me. By the way, I am ordering books on Monday - including the one this pattern is in.  If you have any book requests or want to join the Fair Isle Hat Knit Along let me know before noon on Monday.

It was Rachel's first day back

and it is like she never left.  I'm glad she's here again.  She'll be in Fridays and some other days too.  This means kid's knitting classes will soon be back on the schedule.  And if anyone is wanting a hat class let us know.  Speaking of the schedule (like that segue?) I sent out email and the Weaving class is listed as being the 23rd - it is Saturday the 22nd.  Tomorrow is Beginning Knitting I & II and the My First Sweater class.  You could still get in this one today.

This is some freeform knit & crochet by Janet and it is truly amazing.  She's been making bags and vases and non functional forms lately and felting them, then adding more.....these pictures don't do them justice.

Feature

This month's featured yarns are Artful Portrait and Heavenly....You can make the Heavenly Portrait Scarf with the pattern that comes when you buy the yarn. It is sparkly and soft and great for giving, and it is easy and fast.

And Cascade 220 and Pastaza now come in handpainted colors.  This is very pretty stuff...

Cascade Look in your email soon for this month's knewslettter about more events and new stuff.

See the pretty colors....

Wallocolor These are the 160 colors of Shetland wool from Jamieson & Smith and they are great for Fair Isle knitting.  Darlene came up with a knit along last night - actually one we have been planning but now others can join it too.  Once she finishes that magnificent Meg Swanson totally Fair Isle sweater she is doing for her sister, we are doing a Fair Isle hat - the King Harald Hat from The Art of Fair Isle Knitting.

Harald Artofi

This a great not tooo big fair isle project.  There are three color schemes alredy selected for you in the book or you can invent your own.  It requires seven colors of yarn.  And the book is a classic, gotta have book anyway.  It talks about the history of Fair Isle Knitting and has some great sections on picking colors, color theory, etc. Darlene  swears she will be done and we can start on October 1st.  So, if you want to do this one with us, let me know this week.  I will need to order your book and yarns and it will take a bit of time to get them here.  So if you want to get your order in time to do the knit along, please let me know by next Monday (Sep 10).  There's three of us so far....Carole is contemplating it too....
