I'm back

It's been a while.  Doyle and I both came down with a stomach flu thing that did us in completely for several days. I couldn't even knit.  I managed half a day yesterday and am back today....just in time to be off for two days.  We are, as usual, closed tomorrow and of course Thursday for New Years.  Some really lovely things have come in from Berroco - great new sock yarns and new colors of Bonzai -their breat bamboo yarn.  A bit of the Opal Harry Potter yarns are here as well a couple of the Wintermarchen colors that are really different and lovely.  Friday I will write about more when I have a bit more energy ---- for instance THE MOST BEAUTIFUL Hand Painted Mohair I have EVER seen.  I really wasn't gonna get any since mohair is such an acquired taste, but it was truly irresistable.

Before the evil flu hit Iwanted a big cozy sweater and found two mohair/mohair blends in my stash.  They looked incompatible but as you can see they actually worked really well.  The picture doesn't quite do it justice.  I really love it. This is the back of the sweater.  This is an actual pattern in the store that so far at least, I am actually following.  Though of course my version looks nothing like the black and grey stripes in the original.  It is a greast simple pattern and has a good size range and you could make out of a lot of things.

Knitting 101 - Saturdays, January 10, 17, 24, 31 10:30am - 12pm.  $55.00

Beginning Crochet - Thursdays, Jan 15 & 22 5-6pm, $30.00

Learn To Knit Afghan Class - We'll be doing two patterns a month from the Learn to Knit Afghan Book by Barbara Walker.  The afghan has 48 squares with different patterns, do as many as you like.  Come to class to start them, and finish them during the month.  This class teaches a lot of different techniques and stitch patterns and is great for a new knitter or even more experienced ones.  And you have a beautiful afghan at the end. Class will be the third Tuesday of each month at 4:30pm. $5.00 each class.  Please let me know in advance if you want to participate so that I can order books.

Felted Bag - I needed a new purse and for inspiration I went to Pursenalities & Pursenalities Plus - two great books with lots of styles of bags.  I'm doing a plaid one but you can pick any pattern from either of these books and we'll do them in class. We'll also be adding to the existing patterns - pockets and embellishments too.  Must know knit and purl, increases and decreases are helpful. Two sessions, a third will be scheduled if needed.  $25.00.  Jan 10 & 17, 2pm-4pm.

Falling in Love Scarf - Just in time for Valentines Day we'll be making this lovely little scarf with hearts floating on it.  Made from fingering or sport weight yarn on size 6 needles, this patttern is a good one for learning to read charts and beginning to knit lace.  Must know knit stitch.  Skills learned in the class include, provisional cast on, and some increases and decreases, picot cast off and picot edging. $15.  Saturday, Jan 24 & 31, 2 - 3:30pm.  If a third class is needed we will do this Feb 7th at 10am.

Snow Princess

I'm calling this the snow princess scarf.  It is very soft, not as functional as a good wool neck warmer but very pretty.

 

Scarlett came in with a scarf done in GGH Amelie from a pattern I wrote and I did another one...and then wove ribbon through the yarnover holes....Lace....but better.  The pattern is here, free with yarn purchase.

Spin In Saturday

Saturday Dec 20, there's a Spin In from 1 to 4.  Bring your wheel or drop spindle and come join us.  This'll just be a good time to sit and do nothing else, just spin and talk and relax.  Take a break from the holiday madness.

Aslan Trends

is this week's feature yarn

They are a relatively new company and making big gains in the market.  They have great designers doing patterns for them too.  There is even a design contest going on that you can enter to win cash, yarn and other prizes.  There is a small entry fee and a portion of that goes to their favorite charity - the International Myeloma Foundation.  So for the next ten days or so you can see their yarns at the front of the store - that little round table - and pick your free pattern when you buy the yarn.  We carry three of their yarns. 

Ecolana is one that just came in and is SOOOO SOFT.  It is a 60/40 blend of alpaca/merino wool in worsted weight and natural colors.  There are 176yds in a skein. 

Invernal is a blend of Angora and Wool and looks pretty ordinary in the 295yd skein.  When you knit it it blooms and you get the angora halo and lovely bunny softness. 

DelCerro is Merino wool of many plies...I don't think it can pill at all, yet is very soft.  People often mistake it for cotton in the skein.  Del Cerro has great stitch definition too & so is great for cables and textured knitting. 

Did I mention I LOVE LOVE LOVE their yarns?!?

 

  

 

King Opie

Opie stopped by on his way home from the Vet's office.  Now that the stitches are out he's probably happier.  He'd never been here before and after a moment of investigation decided he is still King  of Everything....

The yarn is on sale today and I have also moved some things and have rack of old store models for sale too.

Did I mention that there are some new shawl pins in the store?  They are hand carved/turned and really lovely.  It's the kind that are a circle with stick through it.  Some folks have been asking for them.

I am knitting a fourth Urchin hat...this really is the last one....in red Rio de la Plata...I really like this one too.  I have been trying to finish things this week.  Old UFOs...a vest out of Auracania Hand paint Nature wool and a sock and maybe get back to the Anniversary Shawl....maybe by the end of the year...I hope.....

What a Gray Day, but ...

There's a bunch of Baby Grande Alpaca in.Yummm!!! and I've put some new things on the clearance shelves, and.....I think there is more Alpaca Ultra on the way......I've been straightening more shelves and reminding myself what is there......there's stuff even I had forgotten.....And the new Knit 1 is in too.  They have an article on dyeing yarn with things in your kitchen and some really pretty sweaters and things with thick yarns and amigurumi and a crocheted afghan....I might keep one of these for the store even.  And the price went down on it too.
