Class Notes

The newsletter is going out this week.  But if you miss it, here are some notes about upcoming classes.  The Bunny class is this Thursday.  Sign up by 12 on Thursday please.    The first Knit for your House will be on Tuesday April 14th at 4:30.  Weaving is April 25th.  Beginning Crochet classes are full until the one on May 2nd (WOW).  I think I will put a Free Form Crochet on the schedule for June for all those new crocehters - and old ones who want something new and exciting to do.  By the way here and also here and here too are some free form knit and crochet sites....I have a free form sweater in the UFO pile that I must get to.   

Not Knitting but also good

  The cats left us a present yesterday morning and it was still alive.  This baby squirrel might have fallen from it's nest (very high up) and I think one of the cats just brought it home and left it alone cause it wasn't moving a lot.  Anyway he seems to be moving slow and eating some.  He has now left for another home and he'll be safer, four cats are more than he could ever handle.

Since we are doing animals...Skipper and Barb have a special relationship.  He loves her, she likes Skipper kisses too. When he visits she is usually the first person he goes to - well after me.  He thinks he's a lap dog.....

The Bunnies are Back

This morning I remembered the Bunnies....those cuddly little adorable stuffed knitted animals - symbols of the fertility of Spring...and they are out.  I am adding a class for making them next week.  Thursday, April 2nd at 4:30.  Bring a knitted square of 6-8 inches and the yarn and you'll need needles and a tapestry needle too.  Stuffing and pattern will be here. 

On non knitting note....Doyle and I have the flu, if I am a little subdued that's why.  Though we are able to function thanks to Oscillococcinum - yes it is unpronounceable, but is a wonderful thing to get rid of flu symtoms.  And another thing.  The cats left me a live present this morning - a baby squirrel.  Doyle is home trying to keep it alive.  Anyone who knows anything about how to do that let us know.  It is eating, so there might be hope.  Not sure that it is capable of caring for itself though, even if it is likely to be weaned already.

Spin Off

Hey, the new one is in.   I love spinning and dyeing.  I have been spinning some of Jan's luscious BFL and now have another hand dyed BFL on the bobbin waiting to be plied. 

Extreme Sheep

 I just got the link to a very interesting and entertaining sheep thing - If you go to youtube and search extreme led sheep there's a great video...tee hee.  Know of any interesting, wierd or strange sheep things on the web?  Send 'em to me and I'll put them up here.

The Sale ends this evening......There are some great books on sale today- 25% off and needles and notions too.

We just got a big box from Plymouth with some more Encore worsted weight colors and a lot of great afghan and baby blanket patterns.  I have put all the Chunky Encore on the clearance shelf.

I have cancelled the Moebius class for Tuesday, as well as the Swirl Shawl class for Tuesday.  Not enough people to make them go.  There is still another swirl shawl class scheduled for April 11th.  There is also an additional beginning crochet class on the April schedule - Thursday, April 16th - 4:30-6pm. 

And I am up to FOUR FO's this month - Clapotis, The Cabled Pillow, The Really WARM Mohair Sweater and A Vest from Auracania Hand Dyed Nature Wool that had been sitting in UFO land for over a year.  Just a bazillion more things there......working on the February Lady Sweater now.  When that is done there is a wonderful scarf from Lynne Vogel (Twisted Sister fame) on the new Knitty that insists it is next.

There are some Opal sock yarns that will make an appearance as soon as I can get that shelf straightened....off to do that now.....

The Sale Continues Friday

I've decided to continue the sale on Friday.  And there may be some different things on sale too.

ST PATRICK'S DAY SALE & SPRING EXTRAVAGANZA

For the rest of the week we'll be celebrating!  Today - Happy St Patrick's Day - is our traditional sale.  Shop and shop and when you get to the cash register, draw your lucky shamrock out of the pot (not gold unfortunately, just old) and you'll get the discount on it for your whole purchase (good on regularly priced, in stock items). This could be anywhere from 10 to 30% off.

Thursday (Spring Eve) selected yarns, books and notions will be marked off - up to 40% off some of them.  At times during the day I will also announce some time limited specials

And Friday (Yeah, Spring!) between 11-3, if you want to get started knitting we'll give you a free lesson and get you started.  There will still be some things on sale that day too.

The start of something big

These are the first entries in a raffle of an afghan. 

For every four ounces of handspun yarn you contribute to the making of the afghan you get an entry.  Darlene is starting the thing already and anyone can come in and knit on it.  When it is done we'll raffle it off.  The handspun yarn can be your own or some you purchased.  This a great start to it and there is no telling at this point how large it could get.  I can't wait to see it.  The pattern is an unusual one Karen found on Ravelry and if you join the Knaughty Knitter's list it is in the Noro Log cabin discussion or search for Ten Stitch Blanket.  It is pretty amazing in Noro but this will be amazing too. 

2 FOs in one day!

I finished two things yesterday!  Clapotis in Schaefer Laurel and I love this but was glad it was over.  I might do a smaller scarf with the pattern but not sure I would do another big one.

 

And this mohair sweater that is from stash yarn.  It is VERY WARM.  It is a pattern from the store that is a little 80's looking so I made the sleeves a bit less bulky.  I really love the buttons - they are made by a woman in Kentucky and we carry her buttons in the store too.  I think this is going to be my new favorite cuddly sweater to wear everywhere.

 

Now I have dug out a UFO Auracania hand dyed wool that is already most of vest.  Only the front left to do so maybe in a week or so.
