Hey, Good Morning!

It is Saturday and Stacie is here teaching the last of the Knitting 101 classes this month.  The next series starts June 28th.  She does such a great job at this.  She is also working on samples for a class she wants to do - illusion or shadow knitting.  It is just too cool.  Look at the knitting one way and it looks like simple stripes, change the angle and there's a design.  Vivian Hoxbro (amazing designer who now works for Harrisville) does whole sweaters using this technique but it'd be great on a scarf or hat or purse too.  So look for that one coming up on the calendar soon.

Mother's Day Projects

Berroco has some great Mother's Day projects to knit!   There are free patterns at the site and lots of projects.  Here are a couple of them.  There's still time - although Knaughty Knitter gift certificates are nice to give too.  We also have kits to make wet felted flower pins that are pretty neat too.

Mystery Stole

Remeber I said I had been bitten by the lace bug again.....Someone told me about this yesterday and I have to do it.  This person sends out parts of the lace stole pattern every week or so and you knit along with other folks.  Here's the link to read about it and join in: Pink Lemon Twist.  Bronwyn and Karen and I are so far doing this - in black lace weight merino - yes we probably have lost our minds, but wanna join us?  Look at some of her other patterns and check out what she designs.

Finished Object

Finally - that short rows cape out of Boku is done.  I love Boku, it is pretty and soft and I am glad to be done cause it was hot.  The class for this is next month......

Short_rows I apparently have a very short attention span....Next is to design a little shell with EASY scalloped lace at the bottom......and work on the silk cap scarflet.  At home there's a large grey top down raglan sweater that only needs a few inches on the sleeves and a finish around the bottom.  And then there's that lace shawl we are knitting along on. The support group is meeting again next Thursday at 5 - it is no longer a knit along - now it seems to be a slog along and we need a support group.

Staff Pick: Jo Sharp!

In the last couple of months, I've knit not one, but two sweaters from a yarn that is among my personal pantheon of greats - Jo Sharp Silkroad!  See them here:

Josharp001

The first is a pullover is Silkroad Ultra in Cardamom, knit with 12 balls for a 40-in bust. The second is a hooded, cabled cardigan (which I took the sleeves off of, to make a comfy hoodie vest!) from the newest Knitscene in Silkroad Aran (8 balls). And can you believe I'm thinking of knitting my NEXT sweater out of this luscious yarn?! The way it springs from needle to needle at my command... its exquisite softness, its sheen and the way the stitch patterns just pop out... I can't imagine a more wonderful yarn! I love it SO much, I made a whole display!

Come in and knit up a ball or two, and you'll be a convert too! (It would also be great as handwarmers or a cabled hat... just sayin'!)

It's the Great Christmas Broccoli, Charlie Brown!

I've lost my knitting mojo, and it can't be found! What else to do but cast on for something simple, fast, and fun? So I started a Christmas stocking in Cascade 220 in a cheery red and green with christmas-y "Popcorn" yarn for some texture! Here's a photo of the baby swatch, known as the "Christmas Broccoli" and its parent, the pre-felted  stocking!

I'm writing up the pattern as I go along (it's very easy) so if you'd like a felted stocking for any ol' reason, we've got the pattern and a multitude of colors and textures to choose from!

Kool Aid Fun

It was one of those rare mornings when I actually got to be at home and I was playing with wool and Kool Aid all morning.  I made an interesting pink, yellow and orange sock yarn, with dark purple spots that looks like it'll stripe well.   It's drying now but there'll be a picture soon.  And then some others in green and orange - well with those we'll have to wait & see...Sign up for Kool Aid Dyeing class by Thursday so that Carole knows how many to prepare for.  She is so looking forward to this one - and she got to play with Kool Aid too making up samples for you all.
