Here are those hats....

  The two on heads are made of handspun yarn I did and the flat one is Noro Transitions.  The pattern was on Knitty last fall - Urchin.  I love doing this hat....The class is Dec 13 at 1pm.  Now I have started another of her designs "Verity" out of Jo Sharp Silkroad Tweed in green.  It is shaped like a flower, starts at the crown.

It is a book called Fiber Mania! A Travel Guide for people who do things with string and it lists all the yarn stores across the US and Fiber Guilds and has maps....

Simple Mittens

 

I made this last night and got through half the second one.  I'm waiting for that one cause it'll be useful where it is for teaching part of the mittens class.  I have December's classes up, but the newsletter won't go out to everyone for a few days yet.  This class is Dec. 6th (Sat) at 10:30 and you could do this one too.  They're yummy made from Cascade 128 and then embroidered.  Just a little extra touch really makes them special and doesn't take a lot of time.

There's also a simple hat class that day in the afternoon.  Both of these are so quick and easy you could make them for everyone.

I hope everyone has a great Thanskgiving.  The store will be closed tomorrow of course and Thursday and Friday so there's no group Friday night.

Fair Isle Madness

In my need for fair isle knitting I have gone a little nuts....Four stockings completed, the beginnings of a scarf (pink and charcoal bit on the side in Jamieson & Smith) the beginnings of a sweater (In Sisik, from Dalegarn book 126 which I had to work to find and finally got from a nice woman in Australia), a hat (grandbaby - in Brown Sheep Sport Superwash) and plans for another sweater (lite Lopi).  In the process of the stockings I learned a couple of heel methods and am trying to work out how to do toe up with an afterthought heel and still get the right foot size.  They are so easy.  Anyone else done these? Gotta be toe up though.

 

The Blue Sky Alpaca Organic and Dyed Cotton has been restocked so there's lots of it and some new colors too.  They also make a bulky wool/alpaca blend that is luscious and we have more of that than ever before.  There was a pattern for bed socks/slippers in Interweave's Holiday Knits  using that and I know I want 'em...just need more time to knit...

And there is a weaving class tomorrow.  I have one slot left in that if anyone wants to take it.  It is from 12-4 tomorrow (Saturday).

FLAT FEET

Flat feet are here.  These are sock blanks (machine knitted sock yarn in flat pieces that make a pair of socks) that have been hand dyed.  No two are really alike.  You rip out as you knit your socks and get a surprise pattern.  They are kind cool cause you carry around this little piece of knitting and no ball of yarn to get tangled.   It's pretty.

Other things have been dribbling in - New colors of Merino sliver from Ashford - Bright colors - Marigold and Lilac and Periwinkle and Teal...

I've just ordered from Blue Sky Alpacas so there should be Bulky Alpaca/Wool yarn in by the end of the week as well as more organic cotton and dyed cotton too.....I love yarn....

My banker just stopped by for a visit today - hadn't seen him in years and it reminded me of what it was like 3 years ago.  I'm really glad to have the store and the wonderful people I have come to know.  Yarn is a happy thing.

Really lovely new book

XRX has a new book out - Knit One Below  - we just got it in and there are some really pretty things in there.  And a pretty cool technique for knitting too.  IT is not going to distract me from the fair isle stuff though....two and a 1/2 stockings down, one more to do.  Then there is a a grandbaby hat and a sweater and....I think I am getting a little overwhelmed since it mostly has to be done in a couple of weeks......so I am going to go knit now....

Needles

came in yesterday have been restocked some.  There are some left for me to get out but at least there are some 10 1/2 circs in the store.  There is also a bit of new Opal.  Some of the newest Rainforest colors are really nice.....I may have to have one.

Happy Birthday to the Store

It is three years old today.  Hardly seems like it has been that long.  So Happy Birthday to us all - cause its the customers and friends who make this such a great place.  Thank you all.

Knit a Hat or Clogs

Next week a couple of good classes start and there is still room for a couple of people.  If you have been knitting scarves and need to learn more, learn to knit a hat.  We'll have a simple hat pattern or two to choose from and learn to make necessary adjustments for yarn size and knit a great hat to keep your head warm.  This one is Thursdays, Nov 13 & 20 at 5 pm.

There's a felted clogs class on Saturday, Nov. 15 & 29 at 11:00am.  Clogs are fairly quick, really comfy and make great gifts.  The pattern is a little involved but easy once you do one.
