Doyle's New Hat

Doyle wanted a hat and he picked a fun one which I just finished.  Yes, I want one too, but with ribbons and silk flowers on it....Don't think I am as brave as he is though, not sure I would wear it except to the Renaissance Fair.  It is out of Folk Hats - the Edward VI Beret.  It's made from Pastaza - Cascade's 50%wool/50%llama chunky yarn.  It's kind of fun to knit - starts going one direction then you pick up and knit the brim going the other way.

There was a yarn rep here today....Plymouth has some interesting new yarns, that's all I'll say...Okay maybe not...Jojoland has silk/cashmere that is to die for....really, bury me with some, please

I love modular knitting II

  This one is the border on a sweater. and is a fairly simple version.  There will be more pictures this week of other more complicated ones.

And these are a few shells - the beginning of the bag or whatever you would like to make.

Love It

Sally made this adorable! baby sweater out of Love It from Berroco. 

 

It is a great pattern, top down just so cute in this yarn.  She's doing a Noro scarf in it too (the stripey one that is so popular lately) I called to order more Love It from Berroco and found that they are discontinuing the line....boo hoo......but I ordered what I could from what's left and it should be here in the next couple of weeks.  I also added a class in this sweater to the schedule for the end of February, along with a class in Modular knitting.  I'll let you know more on that one later.

The Big Stitch

is tomorrow to kick off an effort to knit, crochet  2500 baby blankets for babies born at Meharry Hospital this year.  We are participating and you can drop off blankets here if you don't want to travel to Nashville.  You can get more information on tomorrow's event at  knitandcrochetTN.com.  But I thought since I know many folks won't have time to drive so far we could do something here.  Not tomorrow - February 14th in the afternoon - 1-3 pm.  IT's a good way to nuture your heart and give some time to others on Valentines Day.  Knit a blanket and you can get 10% off the yarn you buy here to do it that day.  Or come in knit a 12" x 12" square and I'll sew them into blankets.  I will be having these little knit ins a couple more times during the year if the response is good.

WOW!

I have been glued to the TV or computer all day...What huge crowds of happy people!  And a great speech too.

And hey, I spotted some great knitting in the crowds. (Because I always look for it) There was one hat that really was beautiful....looked like handspun yarn and MANY colors.

Inpatiently waiting for spring

is the name of this scarf.  I taught a crochet class the other day and was inspired to break out a hook and make this. 

And...the Learn to Knit Afghan class starts tomorrow.  We now have over 75 colors of Cascade 220 to choose from.  It is not too late to sign up.  The class is the third Tuesday of the month, til we get through it - There are 48 squares and we'll be doing 2 or three a month.  You'll learn lots about knitting and a LOT of stitch patterns too.

Speaking of Noro...

Here is Anne's Noro Scarf - the one it seems that everyone is doing.  She's on her third one I think. 

It takes three skeins of yarn - either Silk Garden or Kureyon in different colors and is pretty simple, yet addictive knitting.  The pattern is on Ravelry.  You could probably do it with Mini Mochi too - just cast on more stitches.

What a cute name... made in Japan.  Little balls of sweetness.  Remember the Noro sock yarn?  It was not really appropriate for socks but oh so pretty and pretty scratchy.....Well, Crystal Palace has come out with their version of it (everyone tries to copy the Noro colors).

I think they've come pretty close and it is WAY SOFTER, 80% merino and 20% nylon, says you can machine wash but I think I would hand wash.  It's single ply so I don't think I would do socks with it, but oh the things you could make with it....

Early Spring "Cleaning"

okay not actual cleaning, really - I have done some but we all know I really don't do that. I've been decluttering, I've been straightening shelves and moving things and clearing out yarn that has to go. There, did those things without calling it cleaning.  Consequently there are many more yarns on the clearance shelves and more models for sale too. Come in and check them out.  You may find me in a pile of yarn pulling my hair out....a huge shipment of Cascade 220 is due in tomorrow......I don't have room for all of it on the shelves, any ideas?
