Wierd Objects & Lace

The last day for submitting your wierd fiber object is Thursday.  Voting will start Friday.  I can't wait to see them.  The prize is a gift certificate but the amount is yet to be determined - probably depends some on how many entries I get.

Lace......The class is Saturday and if you haven't signed up please do it soon.  You can use any size yarn - worsted or smaller, but if it will require winding please get here early so that you can do that.  If you have lace weight yarn that needs winding please do it at home as it takes a long time here and we don't wind it for you.

And speaking of lace - this is my second project from the book we are using in class.....It is using a stash yarn I had that is an older colorway of something similar to JoJoland Rythym.  Actually it is the same yarn, but with another company's label on it. Several of them get their yarns from the same place and just put their own label on it.

I love this shawl.  It isn't quite done but will be soon and of course isn't blocked....

The Big Sock

has arrived.

The Big Sock is the brainchild of Jo Ratcliffe of Hastings, U.K.

 It began as a charity knitting event in October 2006 and has evolved into an attempt at the world’s record for the largest hand knitted sock.  The current world record is held by a sheep farmers’ association in Austria and measures about 16’ 3” long.  This Big Sock will far out do the current record.  The cuff alone is going to be over 12 feet and is 1500 stitches or about 23 feet around.  

The big sock has traveled all over the US: New York, Georgia, Colorado, Alaska and now is in Murfreesboro. The first piece was too heavy to continue mailing everywhere and has been returned to England. We are just at the beginning of a new section. If you want to be part of this historic accomplishment the sock will be available for knitting on at The Knaughty Knitter until the middle of June.  We’ll be taking it to the Tennessee Fiber Festival in Dickson at the end of May and to a celebration of World Wide Knit in Public Day on June 14^th at Old Fort Park

from 1-4pm.  On that day anyone who wants to be a part of the project and doesn’t know how to knit can learn and knit on the sock. 

Friday night knitters are the first to work on it.

 

 Okay I have just become aware again that things are really cluttered.....I guess my task for the week is to fix that, maybe get rid of some store samples that have been sitting around too long.  And some yarn as well.  Look for additions to the clearance shelf this week.

New Yarns

From Fiesta comes Baby Boom, luxurious sock yarn in lovely hand dyed solids and variegated....really nice. I may have to knit some lace socks. And then Ironstone Sky is really pretty and textured....

TWO! Finished things

Tuesday I finished and blocked my February Lady Sweater....Now I have to wait for the perfect buttons that I ordered for it. It is out of Auracania Nature Wool in a forest green.  And I finished this too. It is from Louet Kidlin and is light as a feather.  This is from the book we will be using for the beginning lace class on May 2nd.  I am doing another with some stash yarn, worsted weight and a different lace pattern from the book.  I am doing whole shawl in the leaf pattern like on the edge of this one.

The new Knit 1 is here, and some lovely new Opal sock yarn.  The Knit 1 includes some great summer tops and new sock patterns, what a coincidence.....

This Saturday is the last Weaving class for a while.  There are two spaces left if you want to take this class before Christmas. 

I got a crochet bug and am doing a  cotton doily pattern - except I am doing it in aran weight cotton so I can use it as a shawl....I'm about half way.  I forgot again how fast crochet is.  I am thinking it'll be done by Friday.  Then there is the last sleeve on the February lady sweater, and the lace shawl I started as a sample of what we'll be doing in the May 2nd Beginning Lace class....That should be done this week too.  It went pretty fast, even in lace weight yarn.

The Knit Kit Is HERE!

Lots of folks have been waiting for it and about five minutes ago it got here.....knitting group had already left so there still are some here.  If you don't know the kit is a samll plastic case about the size of a CD that has a bunch of accessories - a row counter, stitch markers, scissors, crochet hook, tape measure, thread cutter and point protectors all in one.  You never have to search for all those little things at the bottom of your knitting bag again.

I was late getting open this morning.  Carole saved me - Doyle had taken off for Nashville with my only store key and his and she drove all the way in to town  to meet me and give me hers.  Thank You Carole!  And thank you for working for me Saturday for me too.  I will be at a cheese making workshop and am very excited about that.....yummm

The second Knit for you House class will be meeting on a Saturday (the 9th) in May instead of Tuesday. 

Hey, anyone knitting anything Wierd yet?  Only two weeks left.

I hope everyone weathered the storm

and that folks are safe.  We saw one of the tornadoes from the back porch of the store and watched it move from there. 

And just a reminder we will be closed on Sunday.  Group is as usual tonight.

Brand New Beautiful Yarn

Plymouth has done a very good thing. This is called Mushishi and is wool and a little silk in large (491yd) skeins and is very lovely and soft.

 

It is worsted weight and luscious.  Another of their yarns looks similar - Kudo.  Kudo is a cotton/rayon/silk blend, also lovely, and that is here too. 

Survey

The Knitting Fever Rep is due here in a few weeks and with that he will bring the color card for Auracania Nature Cotton and Patagonia....Both of these are are really lovely yarns and pretty popular. I personally love them but I have noticed that the price has gone up significantly this year.  It will be up to $12 and $13 respectively.  SO my quesetion is:  would you still buy it at this price?  Let me know so I know whether to reorder or not.  Just comment here or on Ravelry.

Tartan Sheep?

  So when you can't sleep nights you have time to find odd things.  These are some sheep in Scotland - sent in to BBC News by their owner.  I'd love to get some of that wool to spin....
