Oh My

There are several Oh Mys....One is that the first batch of new yarns from yarn companies for the Yarn Tasting came in today and Oh my....I am going to have to change my menu...I had not quite expected the extreme level of enthusiasm and participation from the companies and oh my.....and there was email from another saying what she was sending...and ...wait for it.....OH MY

The next "Oh My" is that the sale on Monday - Labor Day Sale - is going to be HUGE HUGE  HUGE!  you'll be going oh my........

And Oh....I put the latest knewsletter on a link on the left so there is quick reference to it and classes and such

I sent out mail and I knew I forgot something.....

The first batch of monthly emails went out this afternoon and I forgot to include The Labor Day Sale in the email.....Silly me...So there's a Sale on Sep 7th from 10-5.  Yeah!

There are REALLY A  LOT OF CLASSES AND EVENTS in September and October.  Check out the website Classes Page for details....

And there will be a Yarn Tasting on September 19th at the store.  Bring a selection of needles and come try out a dozen or so new and new to the store yarns.  Rate the yarns, have a say on what I order, get a chance to order yarn for yourself before anyone else.  We'll have wines, sodas, and a selection cheese too, but really the main course is the yarn, and the second course and dessert....Register early, cause space is limited. 

First Monday Sweater Group

A while back I mentioned the First Monday Sweater Group and that we'd be doing a sweater out of Knit Kimono....here's the picture of that

But even though I will be making this one, I've decided to change the group a bit.  You can knit this one or the sweater of your choice in the group and get help of course.  Group will start meeting the first Monday of every month in September (yes it's Labor Day, I know).  Come to group when you need help or just want to to see folks and you can be there whether it is your first sweater or your 10th.  No pressure to get done in a certain time, just enjoy the process.

We are open now

I'm back, we're open, I sure missed home and the store.  I did almost no knitting while I was gone and was glad to pick up my needles last night.  Hotel chairs are not as comfy to knit in and I didn't really want to knit while we were driving. It was good to get home and see the critters and in time to find the water leak before it did any damage or got any worse....Maine was definitely inspiring and it was interesting to see other stores.  We are a bit spoiled here.  There are so many more types of yarn available here, most stores there were very small without as much selection.  Just before I left a load of books came in, those are out now.  Some new ones, some oldies but goodies.  I had forgotten when I left that they were here and had a whole new surprise when I came in this morning - a table full of books!  I have some special surprises in store for the next month or so, starting with a Labor Day sale.  Yes, we are open on Labor Day (Sep 7) and there are even classes.  There will be sale as well.  More surprises to come so stay tuned.

Yes there is more yarn...

no pictures though.....Pine Tree Yarns is a co-op of a weaver, spinner, knitwear designer, dyer.....they mostly have locally dyed or spun or grown stuff, just a bit of anything else.....There were these huge balls of dyed thick and thin yarn that made me want to race home and dye things....It has been so completely humid here, just dripping...and not much air conditioning.  Our charming B & B had a formal and delicious breakfast this morning....but there is no air conditioning.....The other woman at breakfast was a knitter, small beaded purses, sort of vintage style things....We found nice beach this afternoon at Cape Elizabeth, foggy and the waves were good sized.  Someone there said they were expecting 18 ft waves tonight.    Anyway if Bill doesn't get us we'll be flying home tomorrow.  See you all Monday

Briefly....

No yarn today.  Driving a lot, pretty scenery, found isolated little towns at the end of the world to explore. We are in a charming B & B in Newcastle.  Actoss the bridge is Damariscotta, & a yarn store for tomorrow - Pine Tree Yarns.  And dinner was relatively light tonight, just soup and an appetizer plate of meats and cheeses, homemade bread, candied figs and nuts...but oh was it good....definetly the best meal yet for me....It is pretty here, I would come back.  I wasn't feeling the best earlier and lunch was a truly bad meal -I didn't eat much.....Tomorrow after the yarn store we head back towards Portland and stay there overnight since our flight is early in the morning.  I'll blog tomorrow again...possibly with pictures.....

We are in Belfast now.......

We've got a great view from the hotel.....a big field, leading down to the beach.  Here's the beach...

okay ....not so interesting food today, more lobster, clam chowder, blueberry pie....it was good, but I am TOO full.  Now about yarn....we went to Halcyon...no Viking Combs in stock, a bit of yarn though - you know floor to ceiling fiber things, weaving spinning, felting, a library....I got a couple skeins and some dyes....after that ,I was done yarn shopping even said it out loud....at which point Doyle hands me the   MaineFiberarts Tour  map....we went to an alpaca farm and mill.  We got a tour and they were very nice.  The alpacas too, and Dolly llama is just too cute, and very smart.  This is the mill room, with really big machines, a lot of fiber and then pretty yarn...very soft pretty yarn, really soft...
I said it out loud that I wasn't gonna buy yarn...that counts as trying, right?  Cause that is as far as I got with that....There is way too much yarn and I want to carry Good Karma's yarn and roving at the store.......this is Doyle's fault....

Hello from Bath

We're in Bath, home of Halcyon Yarns which we will get to tomorrow...I am getting a pair of Viking Combs I hope. 
Dinner was interesting.  After the shepherd's pie at lunch we ate smaller for dinner.  Appetizer of fried parsnips, yummm.  Blueberry soup for me and a shared tuna salad - fresh tuna, beans and onions, on a bed of greens.  But really Blueberry Soup...iced, made with berries, champagne and spices....

But now to the really important stuff - YARN  We stopped at Seaport Yarns and Central Yarn Store in Portland and plan to hit Knit Wits on the way back through...  Then Purl Diva in Brunswick...
There's some lovely handdyed mohair/wool from Done Roving, a local farm & mill and alpaca, llama, Jill Eaton wool, an naturally dark worsted wool from Packard Heritage Farm, also local and a few other odds and ends from companies  don't have at the store.  Folks have been friendly and helpful.  Tomorrow Halcyon and then we head for the beach.....I'm gonna knit now

Blogging from the road....

We arrived in Maine and got to the hotel in one piece.  Without making car reservations we got stuck with a huge ginormous truck...- note to self: don't do that again - and we are staying down in the artsy wharf district in Portland.  Here's the view from the hotel...
It is hot and humid, but now that the sun has gone down it is pretty nice.  We went down by the wharves for dinner....There are little cobblestone streets...
and we ate at Wharf 51...I had really good fish & chips (some of you know I hate fish...now I realize it just wasn't fresh...this was yummy.  Doyle had this....
I tried it it, I've been saying I don't like lobster....well really I don't...won't have to do that again either....tomorrow we hit Seaport Yarns and maybe another - Central Yarn shop is supposed to be having a sale - so sayeth the airport tourist lady who obviously knits.....

The last day before vacation

is Today, Monday the 17th.  It is the last day to get patterns for 35% off too.  We will be closed from Tuesday the 18th through Sunday the 23rd and reopen on Monday August 24th.  The Saturday after I get back there are beginning crochet and My First Lace Knitting classes.  You can still call to reserve space in those until Thursday the 26th.
