This is the monster so far...

I may not have him completely done by the time class starts tomorrow - but it'll be close.  Class is tomorrow at 10:30 and is the same time for the next four weeks.  You'll learn a lot, come join us - there are two slots left.

I forgot about putting the latest shawl up.  Here it is.  The pattern was in the latest Knitscene.  The construction was kind of interesting...from side to side rather than up or down.  And the edges are a nice technique too.  I made this one out of some very old handspun (before the wheel - well my wheel anyway) that was stashed and waiting to be something.  A lot of the yarn was a bit overspun or overplied - I had done most of it on a drop spindle - but I kind of like the different texture it has.

And I decided this morning as I was making  peach jam (in a hurry, so I could get to work) that I need a few days off.  It is not looking like a longer "going somewhere cool vacation" can happen til April or May so I will be closing the store on Monday and Tuesday to do a couple of days of staycation and just be home.  I'll be able to get the fall crops into the ground and can some stuff and just play with fiber  too.

This is way fancier than the average one I have seen before.  I am pretty impressed.  And the other cool thing is that she will do these to order.  If you want one, send me a note and I'll let you have her number.  It is going to the framer's tomorrow.  And I am ordering her some crochet thread, and so will also start carrying it at the store.  There are some new crochet patterns in today and I have been getting the urge to do some free form crochet again.....

There is a new yarn just in today - Chirimen from Noro.  (Chirimen is actually a traditional kimono fabric) It is a cotton/silk/wool blend in done in the lovely way that only Noro can.  I got a deal and so I'll pass that on.  It usually retails for about $10.00/skein but I got a great deal on some so for the moment it is only $8.65.  Get it while it lasts cause it is not necessarily coming again and not at that price...

There is the most adorable little monster

No I am not talking about my grandson.....though I think he would like this ...

It is made with Cascade 220 but what is really cool is it is a fine mix of knitting techniques in small bites and therefore a great learning experience.  Soooooo...The class for him will be 4 sessions and includes a bit of slip stitches, fair isle, something modular, some crochet, sewing seams.  If you have basic knitting skills (knit, purl) and can crochet just a little and are wanting to branch out some and  expand your skills without committing to a huge project, this is for you. It starts July 31st (Saturdays) and continues on Aug 7,14,21.  Check the calendar for more details.

The mini mochi worked really well and I would do entrelac again.  The edge is simply crocheted chain and it works well too. 

Now I am working on a UFO and am almost done with the edging.....The Almost FO is an adaptation of Lynne Vogel's Starry Night  Scarf - I turned it into  a triangular shawl, all done with handspun  energized singles  - It, however, required the sewing together of MANY little squares. Every square is a work of art because of the way the energized singles knit and because of the way they are knit and put together.  The edging will hopefuly be sewn on tomorrow.  It really feels good to finish a UFO that has been a long term project.  You'll see it soon - it is totally worth all the sewing.

No pictures of Dianna yet.  I goofed off yesterday instead.  We went to see Chihuly at Cheekwood instead and I would say it is definitely worth the trip to go see.  Really amazing! 

Tennessee Crossroads

I found out yesterday that the segment they filmed in February will be on next week.  Thursday at 7pm or Sunday morning at 10 (I think).  The suspense is almost over.....

I have finished knitting the Dianna Shawl and will probably block it tomorrow, so there will be pictures on Monday.  I got inspired by a shawl David from Tullahoma knitted and am now working on some Crazy Lace in a forest green Kid Seta.  Crazy Lace is from a book that came out this year - and the idea is to randomly make whatever stitches you like, whatever shape shawl you like.  It is great mindless knitting cause it won't matter what you do.
