The Knaughty Knitter

We are all sad this week after hearing that our wonderful
friend, Sally Weiner has died .

Sally has been a customer and part of this store for
quite some time. She was a regular attendant to the Thursday morning knitting
group. She would ferry her friends from Nashville
here each Thursday and we would all look forward to her sporty convertible
pulling in the drive at the little house on Walnut Street. We will always remember
her sometimes wry wit that made her so adorable. She had many friends here and
we will surely miss her.

Zauerball is here

Some folks who are doing the In the Pink Knitalong are waiting for Zauberball to get here.  I have some, a few colors and the black and white as well.  Lisa and Karen are doing the knitalong so if you come in to knit with them on Sundays or Mondays they can help you.  The pattern is free on Ravelry and seems pretty well written even if the results are amazing.

I changed a few things

on the class calendar.  Christmas in July is going to work a  little differently.  Here's how it reads now....

Christmas in July.  My brother and sister in law always do Christmas celebrations with their many scattered children in July.  It’s is easier for folks to travel and get together then and way less stressful.  We’ll be doing our own version.  In July, at 1pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays there will be FREE Christmas Gift Knitting or Crochet Classes.  You buy your yarn, pattern, etc here and the 1 hour of class is free.  Make whatever you like and we’ll help you with it.  Reserve your spot in class ahead of time since there is only room for five people at a time.  You can even just pick out a yarn and we’ll figure out what to do with it for that special person on your list.

So if you have been wanting to try a lace scarf or a set of coasters or a felted bowl or anything else, come to class.  I can help you find your pattern and yarn and notions and get you started. It is our little Christmas in July present to you.

I have also added a spinning group for August and a drop spindle class for the weekend after.

Oh and the In the Pink Knit Along we have been discussing around here.  Even though Lisa and Karen have already started theirs we will be doing a the knit along in July anyway.  Lisa will have folks in on Mondays at 12 who want to do it and I will see about Karen doing the same on Sunday (but at 2:00).  Many folks wanted to do it in the black and white zauberball yarn and so I ordered some and it should be here the end of next week.  Right now there is  Zauberball Crazy and Kauni Effekt and lots of Noro sock yarn here to pick from.  If you haven't seen it - look it up on Ravelry - It is a free pattern there and really stunning.

 

Meet Ms. Ruffles

Ms Ruffles is a wonderful beaded doll made for me by Vera - who tells enchanting stories and makes the most amazing beaded things (as well as free form crochets and knits and does a whole lot of other crafty things)  She is the diva of purls and is quite a wonderful sight.  She is up at the desk now, supervising my writing.

There is one spot left in the felted Teddy Bear Class on Saturday.....And for those in the class already please remember to bring a foam pad to work on.  Dense foam is best, at least 1.5 inches thick.  All the other supplies are here.

There's yarn

Lots of new Noro colors and some of the most luscious Merino Lace from Ella Rae.  The colors are soooo rich.  And even though it says it is lace - it's a little thick and I bet you could do socks or a shawl that called for sock weight yarn.  It looks kettle dyed - the colors are sooo pretty.  There is a new linen blend from Auracania that is really nice, comes in 249yd hanks and so you'd only need 4 for a sweater.  I am planning on doing a top down short sleeve cardigan in that one.  There is new Brown Sheep Bulky, sport weight and sock yarns in solid colors.  I got these because I saw Catkin again and decided I wanted to knit it - I needed better colors of sock yarn to do it in.  I haven't started it yet and it could definitely be a knit along......But so could In the Pink.  For that one I called and got some new colors of Kauni Effekt wool and they assured me they would ship today.  So when that gets here we can do another knit along.  Look them up on Ravelry or come in and I will show them to you.  We can print the pattern for you too.  Yes I know I am starting tooooooo maaaany things - but hey I have finished a lot of little things lately and could get them all done eventually.

So I think I will commit to starting Catkin tomorrow - we could meet here in at 2pm to start together.

Can you say.....

a lot of luscious, lovely, luxurious ladder yarn laying out there, three time real fast?  There is a LOT - 20 colors.  You can make necklaces for a lot of people or weave it into some scarves, or knit with it.  But this time I think when its gone, it really is gone. I got a good deal on some close outs and can pass it on (only 4.99 a ball).

And there is this too.  Handspun luxury with stuff in it  - beads, and sparkle and cloth bits and silk flowers....pretty.  One skein will make a cowl, two a hat or scarf, put it together with another yarn and even more fun.  These pictures don't do it justice.

As you can tell the stuff I have ordered over the last few weeks is starting to come in.  There is more Noro too, and a really nice linen blend from Euro Yarns.  There were five boxes today and I haven't even come close to getting it all put up. The Encore shelves are packed and with some new colors too....(Karen - don't yell at me)

I plied a string of them on some bulky thick & thin merino and YUMMMMM!!!!!

Also I have posted some pictures on the class page so you can see what some of the projects look like.  There is also a tentative class listing through the end of the year with room for more as I think of them or you request them.

Sequins are here!

I know that may not make you all excited, but I have been anxiously awaiting them.  This is String Me Along by Southwest Trading Co, and I have a bobbin of hand-dyed wool at home on the wheel - waiting to be plied with some sequin yarn.  We have 9 colors.  This yarn can of course also be strung along with a regular yarn or some other novelties to jazz it up.  I love sparkle!
