Happy April!

 

Well almost anyway.  Lots of new things continue to arrive for spring.  And fun projects keep making themselves known – I keep seeing things and saying “I’ve gotta make that”.

The weird weather means no gardening yet for a while but in preparation for needing small projects that can be finished quickly I have ordered Premier Yarns Home – a new brightly colored dishcloth cotton.  April 12^th I will teach a class for a round dishcloth that uses short rows.  This is a quick project for learning a popular technique.

Then in May I will start emailing a new dishcloth pattern every Monday.  Most of these will involve a fun new stitch but I will include some crochet patterns too.  You could do  the whole summer’s worth of patterns and sew them together into a blanket or just have a bunch of washcloths to give away.

 

Saturday, April 12^th is Adventures in Agriculture day at Lane Agripark (I think its 9-12 or so).  This is a fun thing for kids and adults.  Help your kids understand where their food and clothing come from, learn about farming and spinning and weaving.  Lisa will be there spinning and weaving and knitting.  There are kids activities, lots to do and learn.

 

Yarn Therapy Group is Monday, March 31^st, 5pm.  Call ahead for reservations and get help for your troubled projects. 

Weaving School is April 5^th, This class will focus on making lace on your loom.  You should have your own loom, and already be able to weave a bit.  There are still spots left.

Robin is teaching “How to Read a Crochet Pattern” on Sat April 12^th.  I hear a lot of folks saying they’d love to make something but can’t understand the pattern.  Here’s the class for you.

I am teaching a lace shawl class starting on April 26^th.  I have a couple of patterns for you to choose from.  This is a shawl in any weight yarn you want, since the size can be adjusted as needed.  You learn how in class.

 

I have had a request for a How to Fix Mistakes class….If you are interested in taking this some time in May, please let me know.

And if you signed up for our rewards program, there is an app you can download for your phone that will let you keep track of your points and will also let you know what other businesses in town have a rewards program too.

New Baby Blanket Pattern

This is Modular Knitting

The pattern will be available this weekend and on Etsy.  It can be done in small or larger.  This is the small one and is suitable for a lap blanket or car seat blanket.  The yarn is Encore worsted.

Arm Knitting

Do You Arm Knit?  Here's the stuff for the hot new technique.  Great way to make quick gifts and use up stash, but there is also this super thick yarn that is made just for arm knitting

Cotton Fleece

Did you know we have Brown Shep Cotton Fleece?  It is a cotton/wool blend and great for spring but should be easier on the hands than a pure cotton would be. 

I've been crocheting lately

Here's a new shawl. The pattern was a Ravelry one - Lagniappe.  I like the fact that in the top section none of the rows are alike - it adds interest and is more fun to do.  And the fringe was time consuming but is pretty cool.....I think I will be using that technique again.  I did it in a chunky wool.

 

Phoenix DK

is a very nice yarn. 100% Egyptian Cotton and perfect for spring.

New From Feza Yarns

We have Glitz, Alp Pre, Alp Naturals, Alp Oriental (I especially like this one) and Alp Dazzle too.  There are also several store samples so you can see what they do.

While I don't think I love this particular color combo, I love the idea of this sweater.  You could take a boring top down sweater pattern and give it some pizzazz by using some of the Feza yarns.

Here are some options

for a Triangular Knitted Lace Shawl.  The class is coming up in April and you can pick from any of several easy lace patterns we have selected.  There will be the option of using words or charts with these patterns and this makes it so easy.  I put beads in this one so we'll be learning how to add beads to your knitting too.

March Knews.... 

We have new spring yarns in already.

 

Taiyo Sport is a new Noro yarn – all the great colorways of regular Taiyo in a sport weight version.

 

A really nice Egyptian Cotton in DK weight arrived this morning.  Eight colors, 273 yds/skein, really pretty.

 

And we have new yarns from Feza.  They specialize in hand tied novelty yarns and there are some really pretty ones I got Monday and more that came in today.  I can’t wait to weave with them too.

 

I am teaching a felted purse class coming up on March 22^nd.  If you have been wanting to tackle one of these, try this one, it is a good first felting project.  The sample is pictured on the website where the class info is. 

 

Beginning crochet is coming up on March 29^th (Sat.).  Robin is teaching this one.  She also is doing a How to Read a Crochet Pattern class in April that will help you crochet the projects you have been frustrated over because you can’t figure out that pattern.  It will also cover reading crochet charts.  Robin is available for private beginning crochet and knitting lessons on Wednesday and Friday afternoons as well.  Call to schedule your lesson.
