Friday Night Group Hiatus

We are taking a break on Friday Night Knitting in June and July.  Friday nights we will still be open until 6pm but no group.  Friday Night Knitting will resume on August 1st with a party of sorts.  Bring your favorite salsa or dip, I'll provide chips and crackers.  We'll vote for our favorites and the person who's dip gets the most votes gets a prize. So now you have all summer to prepare....

 

Robin's Fantastic Summer Crochet Along

Here's a fabulous crocheted shawl Robin is making.  The next meeting for the crochet along is Friday May 30th at noon.  If you have the basic stitches down, she'll help you get through this pattern.  The CAL group is free when you buy your yarn here.  The pattern is available on Ravelry - Changes is the name of it.

Hey It’s Crochet

 

Worsted weight cotton and size h hook

 

Ch 33

 

1^st row:  dc in 4 ch from hook and dc across, ch3 and turn.

 

Pattern:

 

Row 1:  *Dc 4, tr front post around dc below, rep from * x4 more, dc 4, ch 1, turn.

Row 2:  Sc across

Row 3:  Dc 4, tr front post around tr below, rep from * x4 more, dc 4, ch 1, turn.

 

Repeat rows 2 & 3 for desired length and then end with row 2.

 

 

I was going through my closet in the stash room this weekend (A whole other story) and found this.  It is a sampler from a hand embroidery class I taught a couple of years ago.

Is anyone interested in embroidery classes?  I would put one on the schedule this summer if there is interest.  Let me know.

CO 32 with color A

Knit 2 rows.

Row 1:  With A, k1, *k3, pass 1st of the 3 st over the 2^nd and 3^rd.  Rep from * to last st, k1

Row 2:  With color B p1 *insert needle from bhind under running thread between the st just worked and the next st and purl 1 with this thread, p2.  Rep from * across, end p1.

Row 3:  With B, K2, *k3, pass 1st of the 3 st over the 2^nd and 3^rd.  Rep from * across.

Row 4:  With color A, P2, *insert needle from bhind under running thread between the st just worked and the next st and purl 1 with this thread, p2, Rep from * across.

Repeat the 4 rows to desired size and then knit 2 rows in Color A.  BO

 

 

Crochet A Long

Robin has started making this lovely shawl

and I thought it ought to be a summer crochet along.  So starting next Friday you can come in, meet and get started.  The CAL meet is Fridays in May at noon, and June 14 & 28.  One skein of sock yarn will make a smaller version, two for a shawl.  If you have basic crochet skills you can do this one, It looks hard, but really isn't.  The pattern is available on Ravelry, it is called Changes.  It is so pretty.

New Books In

I just got a shipment of books and booklets in.  Lots of afghan books, crochet, bunches of baby projects.  Included in this treasure was a new book by Myra Wood, one of my favorite designers.  Knit in New Directions starts out saying "Everyone is Creative".  So True!  So often folks come in and say they aren't creative.  They are and just don't practice using their creative muscles or are afraid to make mistakes.  Mistakes are how we learn if we can shut that judgemental inner voice down for a minute.  I know if I make something and put the wrong colors together or ones I don't like - hey, I learn not to do that one again.  I also learn that other people may like that color combo even if I don't.  Practice expressing your creativity - It's there, really.  End of Rant....

Oh and that book - walks you through designing your own sweater/vest/bag using templates and knitting modules that you put together.  I can hardley wait to read the whole thing (gotta finish another sweater before I can do anything else).  What I've seen so far is pretty good - it is what I often do anyway, just she has a more organized method for it.

Monday's Dish Cloth Pattern #2

Two colors of cotton one main color (MC), one Contrasting color (CC). 

Try doing team colors or school colors.  #8 needle

 

Begin with main color CO 3.

 

Every row for the 1^st half of the dishcloth will be Kfb, knit across.

 

Knit 12 rows

Change colors and knit 2 rows, change back to MC and knit 2 rows.  Do this again and then knit two more rows of CC.  Knit 8 rows of MC.

Knit 6 rows of CC, Knit 4 rows MC

 

Knit 2 rows of CC without increasing.

 

Now you will begin decreasing each row:  Every row begins with a K2tog and then knit across.  When you have 3 st, K3tog and bind off.

 

Knit 4 rows of MC, Knit 6 rows of CC, Knit 8 rows of MC.  2 rows CC, 2 row MC, 2 rows CC, 2 row MC, 2 rows CC and cut CC.  Knit the rest of the dishcloth in MC.

You can crochet an edge around in if you want to.
