Happy New Year
We appreciate our customers and thank you for your business this past year. Without our loyal local folks we would not be here and growing into our 10th year. Did you know how much shopping local directly feeds money back into your community? For every $100 you spend in a locally owned business $68 goes back through your community in salaries, taxes, etc. If you shop in a chain store like Walmart or Joann's that figure is $43. If you shop online, the number of dollars going back into your local community is 0. This is why I buy as much local product for the store as I can. There is a thing called the 3/50 project (yes there's a website and facebook page, just google it) that talks about saving small businesses by spending just $50 a month in them instead of at the big store chains. This is my new years resolution. Buy more local – I already eat out mostly in local places, but shopping for other things requires a bit more effort and thought. I am going to do more of it in the coming year, both personally and for the store
So much is happening around here. Some new yarns came in this week and I discovered that one I got in a couple of months ago is really fabulous to knit with. I used Berroco Cosma for knitting Scarfy Shenanigans – A Scarfmas Mystery KAL and totally love the results.
The class formats are changing a lot. Check it out on the blog for the details but basically here it is. Rather than do a particular project class, most classes for things you want to knit or crochet can fit into the Pick Your Project Classes. You can come to just a few and pay for them individually or get 6 classes for a discounted rate. Sorry Entrelac is not one of those things, that, brioche and illusion knitting require too much attention to detail for a group setting where everyone is knitting different things. Pretty much anything else knitted or crocheted goes though. There are 4 classes available each week for this.
Weaving classes will be different too. No more waiting for a class. Rent the loom of your choice for a month and come in to weave anytime during the month during normal hours. If you need help getting started or want to learn a technique, then schedule individual lessons whenever is convenient for you. Weaving for fun is still available too, we’ll warp the loom for you and you can come in and weave.
The first Elizabeth Zimmerman KAL starts in January. You can come to the meetings on Sat Jan 3 at 10am or Tues, Jan 6 at 4pm. No need to sign up, just come. We’ll do worsted weight Moccasin socks from Knitting Around.
Knitting 101 starts Jan 10 (Sat) and runs 4 weeks. The next session starts on Fridays – 4 weeks starting Jan 23rd.
And I am adding a Charity Knitting Group to the schedule for Tuesday mornings from 10-12. If you participate in these and come on the first Tuesday of the month, you can get 10% off yarn for your charity project.
I have one other New Year's Resolution – Finish off 1 UFO a month. If it isn't too huge a project it is manageable. Any goal like that has to have a reward doesn't it? So it also means I can start something else as a reward when I finish a thing.
Have a safe and Happy New Year.
