I need more yarn

Like I need a hole in my head but this was too soft and luscious to resist.  This is Wonderland Yarns Cheshire Cat - we had gradient kits from them but these are the big squishy hand dyed (512 yds) merino fingering weight yumminess - perfect (and enough) for a 1 sk shawl for summer.  I could curl up in a pile of it and sleep. 

Spinners Gathering

Hey do you Spin yarn?  Come hang out with other spinners at the store on Saturday April 18th from 1-4.  Bring your wheel and we'll spin together.

Hey it is Monday again.  Monday and Tuesdays and Thursdays in April at least we will match internet prices on the exact yarn we have in stock..... Print out the ad and bring it in and we'll figure it out from there.

New Yarns

A couple of years ago we had a yarn tasting of EcoButterfly Certified Organic Cottons.  I just reordered some of these because I love them a lot. 

Why bother with Organic Cotton?  Normal cotton has been grown with a LOT of pesticides that are both toxic and persistent as well as synthetic fertilizers that hard on the environment.  These cottons have had no processing with harsh chemicals that normally is involved in the production of cotton products, and unmercerized cotton is easier on arthritic joints while knitting.  This makes them great for knitting for babies - I personally don't love the chemicals next to baby skin or mine for that matter (I have a lot of washcloths out of this stuff). And hey, they come in a bunch of natural colors - except for the obviously dyed ones there are many shades of cream, browns and greens that occur naturally and even darken with washing.

Eco Butterfly cottons are dyed with vegan friendly vegetable dyes (except for pinks & reds which are cochineal).  The company even buys carbon offsets to make up for the transportation of the yarn to the U.S.

We have worsted, and a sport weight cotton and a lace weight Qoperfina which has a fine bit of copper running through it.

 

And the other yarn in lately is Adriafil Kimura.....a fun DK weight seal striping yarn from Italy.

Adventures in Agriculture Day

Is April 11th.  Saturday - 10-2.  Its a fun event for kids and their grownups and way to learn about where your food and clothing come from.  Lisa will be there demonstrating weaving and knitting and there are lots of exhibits and kid activities.  Go, support your local farm folks.

I finally finished the lace shawl I was making with Done Roving's transitions yarn.

Dye Days

Great weather and days off and energy all coincided lately and I got some dyeing done.  Here are pictures - dye porn if you will.

Oh the scarves are here and for sale... though I kept this first one for me.
