Knitalong!

At Fiber in the Boro I ran into Phyllis H. who I had not seen in a while.  She is a wonderful knitter and spinner from Nashville...anyway she had on a gorgeous shawl made from her hand spun yarns.  Turns out it was her yarns made from fibers she had purchased at the last couple of years of Fiber Festivals...Christine and I both wanted one and decided on a knitalong.  We'll be using our hand spun yarns to create unique works of art.  This starts in Friday group and anyone is welcome to join us.  You can use your handspun, or your hand dyed yarns or just a bunch of leftovers from your many projects.  Phyllis said she'd come to group with the shawl so we can all be inspired again.  Friday 5-7.  Here's just a teaser photo Christine took of the shawl.

This was a Ravelry pattern Kathy Kelly's Cabled Cape.  It was fun and interesting to do, the techniques were a bit different on the cables.

Lisa has been quilling...She is going to teach class in it.  Yes it is paper, but paper can be made of fibers....anyway the Quilled Christmas Card class is in November.

 There will not be Friday Night Group this week due to the Fiber in the Boro.

Red Sweater Day

Kim T. brought in her beautiful newly knitted red sweater. Thanks for showing us your finished project! She added a fancy little edging to the hems.

My New Scarf Book

is being printed by Doyle as I write this.  I thought I would post pictures but it appears typepad is not allowing me to at the moment (Karen, what happened to that little icon up there, I know you know where it is!)

I designed the scarves for new to intermediate knitters. It is designed to help new knitters grow their skills, and most are enough to keep intermediate knitters interested too.  Some of the patterns have been around the store for a while, many are totally new. 

Raggi x 2

We've restocked Raggi, the heavy sock yarn, with colors we loved from last year and new colors introduced this year.

 

And we've added new Mini Raggi, its fingering weight cousin!

 

See this cute little bag

It looks like knitting but is really Tunisian Crochet - and therefore a quick project.  It is made from Punta Yarn Meritwist hand dyed Merino....and is the perfect size for a sock project.  Notice the Knitter's Pride Needles there - we have more of those now in straights, circulars and double points.

So I know if I got a present of a ball of sock yarn and some needles in a neat little bag like this - I want to make that person a nice little gift too.

Little bags are a great quick project that you can use later for all sorts of things.....

Friday Lunch Bunch

is, of course, today.  Come in at noon with your lunch and we'll be playing Knitting Daily until about 1:30.  They are fun and full of great knitting tips and project ideas.  Is it supposed to rain all weekend? Cause that would be the perfect time to get started on gift projects for this winter...We have lots of ideas for that.

Gift certificates for knitting lessons

I don't know what got me started on this, except I have been working on samples for the booklet of scarves I am putting together and so I guess that got me started thinking of Christmas presents....because even though I don't think you can have too many scarves & cowls, I think I am really close to changing my mind about that.  I could wear a different one every day for months at t  his point.....

Oh I almost forgot....This yummy new sock yarn came in .... aptly named Indulgence...self striping, merino, and in a slightly heavier weight.

 

Not Olympic Knitting?

What is everyone knitting or crocheting for the Olympics?  I am not doing a project.  But my personal goal is to finish three projects that have been sitting as well as do all the test knitting for a new scarf booklet I want to get printed by September.

I wasn't going to watch or do a knitting project because of the whole Olympic officials and Ravelry thing, but since NBC is an actual channel we still get since we went comcast free at our  house I guess I will be watching some.  Doyle spent much of the day trying to get it on the TV at the store so we could watch there, but it is a no go on that so far.  I have not been knitting so much since the Comcast Free Life has come to us, watching less TV is good for me though. And suprisingly I don't miss it much _ well I do miss the knitting, but I am reading more again and that is nice.

Anyway let's start a list on Ravelry of what folks are knitting or crocheting.  I'll go there now and start the thread....

Come in, get out of the heat

and sit with one of the new magazines that came in today.  There is the new Jane Austen Knits (can I just say fabulous).  There are lots of pretty, romantic knits in there.  Then there is the new magazine Noro.  OMG, the stuff is just gorgeous.  The rep is coming next week and if you come  in before then I will write down what you want and order it.  There are several "gotta knit it" projects in there.  Wait til you see them.  I was just thinking this morning I need a new summer tote and hey, there is a great pattern for one in the magazine.  Guess I will have to start it today.  If you haven't tried the Noro yarns yet, you should.  The colors are awesome and there is nothing quite like it still.

And one of the books that came in today is the cutest thing I have seen in a while - Meerkat Knits. They are completely adorable in all their little outfits.
