Beginning Weaving on an Inkle Loom - Saturday, June 27th, 12:30-4pm.   You'll learn to warp and we'll begin weaving on this fun little loom.  Make belts, straps, edgings and more.  Buy your loom here and the class is $20.  Bring your own loom and it is $45.  Looms need to be ordered ahead of time so please register by June 15th in order to get yours in time for the class.  Looms come in standard or mini sizes and you can use either one.  Yarns will be a lightweight cotton or linen, no acrylics - they're sticky.  Bring some thin twine or hemp to make heddles with. 

Open Wednesday 1-4pm

Normally we would be closed Wednesday.  But tomorrow is special - we will be open from 1-4pm just for all those Stitches travelers coming into the area.  Stop by and see us while you are here. And hey join us for Friday Night Knitting from 5-7 too.

I have put a discussion thread on our Ravelry group where you can post your knitting, crochet or weaving questions and I will do my best to answer them.  I will check it most days.  Unlike on the phone you could even post a picture and I could see the problem up close to help you.

Class Calendar

I making some adjustments on the class schedule for next year.  Check 'em out on the calendar page.  Wayne is still teaching beginning classes and has a hat class next month too.  But starting next month weaving will be working a little differently.  Several people have asked for loom rentals and so I have added something like that. ...

If you want to learn to weave now there's no waiting for a class!  Sometimes folks feel really rushed with the current format of 2 2hr sessions. And things don't stick in your brain with so little time and I want folks to be able to weave after.  SO, for individual weaving lessons, you can do it this way:  Pick your day and time during our open hours to come in and use the looms and get lessons.  For a 1 month use of looms and help getting started, it works like this

Loom rental for a month - $30 - this means that anytime during regular hours that there is not a class going on you can come in and weave on your project.  We have several different sizes of looms0 available. I am hoping to get the 8 harness table loom into this too later this year.

Teaching time is by the hour @ $30/hour.  This time should be scheduled ahead so that I am really available.  For this, if you have your own loom, you can just bring it with you.

Weaving for Fun is still available too - we'll warp the loom for you and you come weave.  The only change is that you have a week to use the 3 hours of weaving time for your project.  You pay the cost of the warp you have chosen and $30 for the class. 

This gives you some flexibility - you can come in for the basics or advanced lessons at your leisure.  You could just rent the loom so you can make gifts or come in to learn a specific technique

For groups who want to learn to weave or learn advanced techniques, call to schedule and set it up.

This is woven with cotton and wool yarns, some felted, cotton didn't.  Got ruffles!

Beginning Weaving

Class starts Saturday Nov 15 and continues on the 22nd.  This is the last one for the year (though I will happily do individual lessons too)  If you want to just come in and weave a bit to see if you like it, Weaving for Fun will be the 22nd as space permits.  For this we will warp the loom for you and you just come in a weave.

It’s almost May!  I am back from my Staycation.  I made stuff, stuff I usually don’t have time to do.  It was great.  It is gardening time, so lots of folks like small knitting/crochet projects that don’t require too much thought or energy after a day out working, or that you can transport to the porch and sit and knit, drink a glass of wine and talk to the kids and hubby/friends.  The first dishcloth pattern will be coming in your email on Monday, May 5^th.   You can also get it in on our Facebook page and at the website.

                       

I am working on a shawl sweater (Anthology) from the Nicky Epstein book Block by Block.  The book has some lovely patterns and a lot of knitted block designs you won’t find elsewhere.  There will be a 6 week class this summer. I will be teaching a lot of advanced techniques – fair isle, intarsia, duplicate stitches, some interesting shaping and cables and cording and embroidery on knitting just to name a few. I will be substituting some blocks in the pattern so you learn how to do that too. Yarn must be purchased here for the class, but the book is less expensive through on line sources. (I can order for you if you don’t do online purchases). The class is on the schedule already, and a couple of folks have already signed up.  The yarn used in the book is Berroco Ultra Alpaca worsted – 12 skeins total.  This means a whole bag of one color and a couple of skeins of contrasting colors. It is a lot of yarn.  I am ordering from Berroco on May 13^th. They are increasing their prices after that.  So if you would like to get your base yarn for the project, now’s the time to order it.  If you order a whole bag of Berroco yarn – any yarn, not just that one – and prepay it I will give a 10% discount on the order.  I have color books here that you are free to look through and if you come in when I am here I will help you figure out your colors for the project. 

 

On May 3^rd  the Williamson County Library in Franklin will be having a Make-A-Thon from 10-4.  We’ve been invited, so Lisa will be out demonstrating weaving and spinning and knitting from 10-1. You can go and sit and knit (or whatever) with her.   It’s a lot of fun and you meet new people.  There’ll be lots of different folks making things – 3D printing, robotics, woodworking, photography, sounds like a wide range of demonstrators.

                                                                                          

Do you know about Wraps for Hope?  They are a local charity for providing women with warm shawls when they are going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.  You can find contact info on Facebook if you would like to donate shawls, yarn or anything else.  For the months of May and June, I will give a 10% discount for those donating shawls you’ve knitted or crocheted.  Bring in the shawl you have made from our yarn and are donating so we can get a picture to put on the website and we’ll give you 10% off yarn for another project that day.

 

Soon it will be time to be thinking about entering your knitting or crochet or spinning or weaving into the State Fair.  It is a fun thing to do and you can win stuff.  The entry forms are due in the late summer usually so the forms aren’t available yet but it is time to start something.
